The Brief
To collaborate with the RSPB and Peatlands Partnership on their "Flows to the Future" project by creating a 3D virtual landscape model of the 200,000-hectare Peatlands of Caithness and Sutherland (The Flow Country). The objective was to build an interactive application allowing a global and local audience to explore this remote environment, educate themselves on its ecology, and engage with conservation efforts in an unprecedented way.
My Role
As the Lead 3D Generalist and Technical Character Animator, I was responsible for modelling, texturing, and animating accurate 3D representations of native bird species frequently spotted in the Flow Country—including the Golden Plover, Greenshank, Dunlin, and Red-Throated Diver. The assets were built and animated within Maya and integrated alongside video interviews and wildlife information within the wider application created in partnership with Peel Interactive.
The Outcome
Delivered an immersive, highly detailed 3D virtual landscape and animated wildlife suite that successfully translated a remote natural ecosystem into an engaging digital format, giving global visitors interactive access to one of the UK’s most vital ecological regions.
The app was created in partnership with Peel X and also includes detailed information on the wildlife, video interviews, and animations.
